Dehradun, is the interim capital of Uttarakhand, a state in India. Located in the Garhwal region, it lies 236 kilometres (147 miles) north of India's capital New Delhi and 168 kilometres (104 miles) from Chandigarh. It is one of the "Counter Magnets" of the National Capital Region (NCR) being developed as an alternative centre of growth to help ease the migration and population explosion in the Delhi metropolitan area and to establish a smart city at Dehradun. During the days of British Raj, the official name of the town was Dehra. At present, Gairsain, a hill-town between Garhwal and Kumaon regions and centrally located in Uttarakhand, is being developed as permanent capital of the state.

Buddha Temple is a Tibetan monestary, also called as Mindrolling Monastery and was build in 1965 by his eminence the Kochen Rinpoche and few other monks for the promotion and protection of religious & cultural understanding of Buddhism. Built in Japanese architecture style, Buddha Temple complex atmosphere provides a mental peace equal to Buddhist monk. Buddha temple complex was created as one of the four schools of Tibetan religion. This temple complex is known as 'Nyigma' while other schools known as Sakya, Kagyu and Geluk respectively.
A prominent landmark of Dehradun city, Clock Tower of Dehradunis located at Rajpur Road. Names of the freedom fighters of Dehradun are engraved in a gold plaque on the Clock Tower. Clock tower also marks the centre of Dehradun city and all major commercial centre are easily accessible from here. Chakrata Road, Paltan Bazar Rd, Rajpur Rd and Haridwar Road meets at Clock Tower. Unfortunately, the impressive clocks are not working now. Previously chime of the clock was audible from far-off places of the hill city.
One of the finest Dehradun, India points of interest include Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology. Established in June, 1968, it is an autonomous research institute for the study of Geology of the Himalaya. The institute also has a museum which offers a glimpse into the mighty Himalayas, its origin, its evolution, and life in the geological past. Dehradun experiences a humid subtropical climate. Monsoon in Dehradun lasts from July to September. During this season, Dehradun experiences ample rainfall. The entire city comes to life as the rains give a brighter hue to the lush green mountains. During the months of October and November, autumn season kicks in. The weather cools down, followed by winter season that starts in December and ends in February. The temperature ranges from 22 °C to 3 °C and the nearby regions such as Mussoorie, receive snowfall. Woollen clothing is recommended during this season.
